A dense humor in this Sonata. A wry parody of Jazz in first movement. Second movement also very accessible. Do I detect tongue and cheek jazz chords? This is my favorite of Vincent Persichetti piano sonatas along with #3. Movement pays ironic homage to the waltz or minuet. 3/8 or 6/8 time. Last movement hard to describe but I know it's good. Toccata-like. I enjoy the whole thing. Nice syncopation in performance. Great sound. This is the definitive version of #6.

Revueltas hizo música muy avanzada para su tiempo, yo escuchaba de niño algunos discos que llevó papá a la casa de Revueltas, Moncayo, Zarsoza, y no entendía la música, me proyectaba el México de mis papás y abuelos de la post revolución. de los pueblos originarios y pasado prehispánico . Hoy en 2024 apenas escuché el movimiento Pesca de la obra Redes, tarde 25 años en saber el autor de ése fragmento, ya que era con la que se identificaba radio UNAM ó la X-ela en a-m y no decían el autor. Escuchar la obra de Revueltas refuerza mi identidad y me dá fortaleza aún a mis 57 años. Saludos.

Reading Wikipedia, which I know is imperfect, they seem to lump Norgard into spectralism. From a sound world perspective I find that descriptor of Spectralism rather limiting. Xenakis, Haas, some of Ligeti, I get the Spectralism tag. Norgard in a good way, a very good way seems to be more than that. More musical, less ponderoous, more serial and a random sequencing that resolves itself with irony and decisiveness that is pleasing to listen to.

I gotta say as someone who grew up with the analog synths of the 70s, the Columbia / RCA Mk. II Sound Synthesizer makes some pretty crude noises. Or maybe it's just a bad recording. Or record pressing (this is obviously off vinyl).
